Welcome to No.3 Dialknowe Holiday Cottage  - PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE A NEW WEBSITE Wanlockhead Retreats

No.3 Dialknowe Holiday Cottage in Scotland's highest village at the end of a row of cottages in the tiny village of Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway. The former lead mining settlement still pays a nod to the former glory of the mining days and retains some of the history in and around the local museum. Some of the scenery, when either walking or driving in and around the village, is some of the most dramatic and beautiful in the country. Quite surprising is that the location of the cottage is less than eight miles from Abington Services on the M74 Motorway.

Inside the cottage there is a comfortable and cosy space which provides the ideal home away from home. A living room with Smart TV is on the ground floor and there is a dining room with a spacious table located off the living room. Within the kitchen, also on the ground floor, there is all you would need to prepare meals after a day’s exploring and enjoying your surroundings. There are two bedrooms in the cottage. One on the ground floor which sleeps two in a double room, whilst the bedroom on the upper floor has a double bed as well as 2 singles. The bathroom with the over bath shower is downstairs. This cottage is ideally suited more towards families.

Take a break from cooking and stroll to the nearby pub, the Wanlockhead Inn, famed as Scotland’s highest pub positioned over 1500ft above sea level, where you can indulge in a delicious homecooked meal prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients served alongside a fantastic range of ales, perfect for a crisp pint following a two-footed adventure along the Southern Upland Way. Scotland's Highest Golf Course, Leadhills Golf Club, rests a short distance away in the pint-sized village of Leadhills, along with Britain’s highest adhesion railway at the The Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway. For a unique experience, head to Lowther Hills Ski Centre, where you can try your hand at skiing through the hills of the South of Scotland, or if you don't manage to get the ideal weather conditions, visit the Museum of Lead Mining which offers the only underground mine tour in Scotland and also daily gold panning sessions. Jump in the car and journey to the nearby parish of Moffat, where you can test your swing amongst the 18-hole moorland course at The Moffat Golf Club, catch a spot of live entertainment at the Old Well Theatre, wander through the well-kept grounds of an abandoned quarry at the Moffat Community Nature Reserve, or pick up some goodies to enjoy from the comfort of your holiday home at Moffat Toffee Shop. For a retreat to Scotland that you'll remember for years to come, choose a stay at No.3 Dialknowe Holiday Cottage.
